College Planning Services

CT College Planning assists high school students through the important transition to college. We work with students and families at all stages in the college planning process. No matter where you are in the journey, we will partner with you to determine which services are best suited to meet your needs.

We offer a comprehensive College Planning Program package for high school juniors and seniors. Students and families may supplement hourly consultations for additional support not traditionally included in the Program package. Hourly consultations are also available to high school sophomores or students and families for whom our traditional College Planning Program is not an exact fit.

Student Academic Profile Assessment

Students will take the College and Career Impact Report Assessment, which measures four personality styles:

  • Dominance
  • Influence
  • Steadiness
  • Conscientiousness

A licensed DISC Certified Behavioral Trainer will go over the results with your student and at least one guardian, where you will gain insights into how your student learns and absorbs information, their communication style and strengths.

We will use the assessment results in tandem with educational interests, prior academic performance, accomplishments, and financial and geographic considerations to help your student decide on a list of colleges and majors best suited to meet their needs

    College List Development Services

We will prepare an initial list of suggested colleges based on our Initial Assessment and Consultation. Example considerations include:

    • Assessment results
    • Academic resume (grades, test scores and extracurricular activities)
    • Educational interests, accomplishments and skills
    • Financial and geographic factors

This list will evolve over time as students gain additional information about each school and more clearly define what is most important to them. Our goal is to build a college list that is customized for your unique needs and interests.

Exploration of College Majors and Programs

Similar to the process for developing a college list, we will collaborate with students and families to explore which college majors are best aligned to your unique interests and strengths. We will rely heavily on your College and Career Impact Report Assessment results to determine which majors play to your student’s strengths, learning and communication styles.

    Application Completion Process

During our follow-up consultation, we will provide advice on how to approach the application process and help students identify and learn how best to demonstrate their unique talents and accomplishments.

We will provide a comprehensive review of one completed application of the student’s choice, which will consider both the structure and actual content of information presented in order to submit a compelling application.

    Application Essay Guidance

Similar to the process for completing college applications, we will provide a comprehensive review of one completed essay of the student’s choice. Essay deadlines vary by school, but this process typically begins at the start of a student’s senior year.

    Our essay evaluation will include:

    • A review of your essay structure (format, grammar, spelling and punctuation)
    • A review of your essay content (fluency, transitions and supporting details)
    • Advice on how to demonstrate your value proposition in the most compelling manner
    Institutional Merit Scholarships

Merit Scholarships are awarded directly by colleges to attract the best and brightest by offering tuition discounts to students based on academic, athletic or artistic merit. Application requirements differ by college and may consider financial needs, underrepresented demographics and majors or special interests.

Our services identify colleges that provide Merit Scholarships and other incentives for students. We recommend taking advantage of this service early in the college planning process, so your student can work towards improving their qualifications before application deadlines, if necessary.
